(More customer reviews)Currently, this toy is at every Wal-Mart and Target in my area for a much more reasonable price than any I've seen here, especially when you throw in the cost of shipping. Once it's out of stores, you'll have no choice but to spring for the online price, but that day isn't today. I got mine for around eight dollars.
He's very show-accurate, very well-articulated, and the sidecar-to-samurai-armor gimmick is simply amazing, without interfering with the toy's poseability. Some details to Prowl himself have been changed: we lose the hubcap shuriken, unfortunately. The good news is, all the clear blue plastic looks great, and the nose of the bike has been extended so as to cover that unfortunately-placed ball joint up front (if you're like me, you don't want the joints, screws, etc. placed conspicuously, making it look less like the character and more like... well, a toy. Anyway, that's fixed.)
Only issue I have is the difficult transformation, and the arms and legs popping off way too easily. It's easy to lose track of how things like that should be placed: if something's turned the wrong way, it'll look right in one mode, and you won't know why the transformation isn't working. That's why I gave him a three on "" I don't know how easily non-detachable parts would actually *break* if dropped, stepped on, etc. but in transforming him, it's *too* easy to pop off an arm or a leg.
Partially but not entirely because of this, even paying very close attention to the instructions, I've not able to get him back into bike mode properly, and even robot mode stands sorta lopsidedly. When you get the transformation 95% right, you'll swear it's a defective toy, but it isn't: I've seen pictures of it done properly, so I know it's me and not a structural defect, but... if this is a 3 on the 1-4 scale of transformation difficulty, I don't think I wanna see a 4. Perfecting this guy's transformation is *tough.* (Meanwhile, Voyager Animated Starscream, also a 3, transforms more easily than some 1s or 2s that I've had. That number is not always right.)
I'm not a hardcore Transformers fan like some, so maybe someone who's better at this than me through practice and experience would find it easier - I can practically hear the "real" fans saying "What? You wuss! This is a piece of cake!" - and I am not sorry I bought it; I'd do it again in a second. Even 95% transformed he looks awesome, and I'll keep working on it. But *parents,* take note: your eight-year-old will probably have a devil of a time getting to the point of being able to quickly change him back and forth every time.
Whether this is a good thing or not depends on the child (or adult fan, for that matter.) If your child would have more fun with something that quickly and easily changes from one mode to the next, this might not be for him/her. If figuring out the transformation is part of the fun, on the other hand, then the difficulty level is a positive.
