I bought one for my five-year-old a week ago. Since Bumblebee comes in car mode, my son wanted to transform him into robot form as soon as the package was opened. That's when we hit the first problem. Transforming is no easy task. In fact, Bumblebee has been stuck in robot mode since we bought him since neither I nor my wife can change him back into a car.
On top of that, the toy is designed with numerous ball and joint sockets that are "made to detach if excessive force is applied." Basically, that's just code for "this toy will fall apart easily." My son is no Bulkhead -- he's just an average five-year-old fan of the show who wants to re-create what he sees his favorite character doing on-screen. That means some rough play with occasional aerial assaults. The Bumblebee Deluxe can not handle it. Both I and my son are getting tired of re-attaching everything from his head to his leg guards...
If you're an adult collector, go ahead and buy this. It's a great looking toy that is surprisingly similar to the cartoon character. If you're a parent with a young child, give it a miss. It's just going to frustrate you and your child endlessly.
