Transformers Armada Tidal Wave with Ramjet Mini-con Review

Transformers Armada Tidal Wave with Ramjet Mini-con
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Decepticon is just plain GREAT! This figure starts out as the Dark Fleet- three oceanic combat vehicles. They are pretty cool as such. The Mini-con, Ramjet, can make gun turrets on one of the vehicles turn, and Ramjet fits nicely inside a small storage space on the aircraft carrier. The three Dark Fleet vehicles combine to form one big ship. This ship looks awesome and is mostly sturdy (some joints are a little weak but no big problem). Now you can transform the ship into Tidal Wave, a huge Decepticon. His arms are very poseable, and he is a very very cool looking robot. The joints that are a little loose as a ship are wonderfully tight as a robot. His legs don't bend at the knees and his head doesn't turn, and even though his hands are poseable, he can't hold the starsaber, requiem blaster, or skyboom shield. Still, I can't recommend this figure enough. I think he's my favorite Armada toy so far. Plus, as Dark Fleet, the three vehicles can be attached to Megatron/Galvatron as armor and weapons. Two thumbs way, way up for Tidal Wave! His Mini-con Ramjet is not too bad, but not the best either. I'm pretty neutral on this; but no fears- Ramjet does not distract from the awesome nature of Tidal Wave!

Hasbro Transformers Optimus Prime Battle Rig Blaster Review

This was right at the top of my son's Christmas List this year. His grandparents got it for him and he was thrilled. He has enjoyed it. I wish I could find some replacement darts for it though as his little sister has made of with 2 of them. lol Overall he loves it so that makes me happy. I am not a big fan of things that shoot being in the house for toys, but this has worked out okay.

Based on the blockbuster hit movie, the Hasbro Transformers Optimus Prime Battle Rig Blaster brings the epic battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons to your living room. Modeled after the Autobots' fearless leader Optimus Prime, this truck transforms into an arm-blaster in an instant. This toy is recommended for children ages 5 through 14.
Instant Transformation The Optimus Prime Battle Rig Blaster starts off as an awesome, red and blue semi-truck. The truck can be played with just like any other toy vehicle, rolling smoothly over hard floors and carpet alike. It is a very detailed model, featuring windows, studded wheels and -- of course -- the famous Autobots logo. However, the fun doesn't stop there: The truck instantly changes into an arm-blaster with the pull of a lever. With this blaster, kids will be blowing away Decepticons in no time. Kids can harness the incredible power of the Transformers by shooting darts with deadly accuracy and range. It also fits comfortably over your child's hand, virtually transforming your young hero into Optimus Prime himself.
About Transformers The Transformers began as a Hasbro toy line back in 1983, featuring toy vehicles that could transform into robots. The toys soon inspired an entire universe of fictional story lines, pitting the two factions of Transformers -- the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons -- against one another. A live-action movie based on the Transformers was released in 2007 and has continued the toy line's extreme popularity. With toys such as the Optimus Prime Battle Rig Blaster, kids can bring home the struggle between the Autobots and Decepticons. What's in the Box Optimus Prime Battle Rig Blaster and three foam darts.

TRANSFORMERS Transmetals BEAST WARS: Optimal Optimus Review

TRANSFORMERS Transmetals BEAST WARS: Optimal Optimus
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned this figure and his nemesis, Predacon Megatron (dragon form), since around the time both figures first came out and they're still two of my favorites. The level of detail is incredible, and although the transformations are not quite as complicated as the current leader class figures from the live action movies, they're still challenging enough to be fun. Optimus' "two" vehicle modes (it's actually more like one and a half, the two are very similar, only real difference between car and jet is the positioning of the arms and wings) are pretty ridiculous - he just looks like a mangled mash up of arms, legs, wheels and wings - but that's actually accurate to the way he was depicted on the TV show, so you can't fault the toymakers on that one, and his gorilla and robot modes are both awesome and more than make up for the uninspired vehicle modes.
Did I mention the incredible detail? For figures made more than a decade earlier, it's amazing how well both Optimus and Megs stand up to the current leader class figures out today. Optimal Optimus looks right at home next to my live action Leader Class Optimus Primes, and I'd argue Predacon Megatron is an even better figure than his movie counterparts.
I love the live action movies and leader class figures those have led to, but Optimal Optimus and Predacon Megatron are also both great figures from an under-appreciated chapter of the ongoing Transformers story. Any collector missing either of them is missing out!

110VAC to 12VDC 10-Amp Power Supply Review

110VAC to 12VDC 10-Amp Power Supply
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I realize that all such products originate overseas nowadays, but at least for an electronic device this might even be a plus. Unfortunately, I found the quality of this device even below my modest expectations.
#1 - The red banana jack was the wrong size! It had a smaller hole than the black, so much so that I could not insert a banana plug! To fix this, you must disassemble the unit, unsolder the jack, put it in a vise and drill it out to the proper size, and then solder it back in. This is unacceptable for a brand new out-of-the-box purchase.
#2 - The instructions include a picture of the device and state several times not to try and get more than 7 amps out of it. The power supply itself and the outer box state 10 amps. That's quite a difference. Which is it?
#3 - The fan is very noisy -- much noisier than the old PC power supply I was using before.
#4 - There is no ON-OFF switch, so to get the fan turned off you have to unplug the power cord.
There are several worthy competitors to this product, in retrospect I wish I had purchased one of the others.

Transformers Universe Deluxe Figure Hound with Ravage Review

Transformers Universe Deluxe Figure Hound with Ravage
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Hound was always one of the more interesting looking Autobots back during Generation 1. He just had this interesting, boxy asthetic to him that I really liked.
So now comes this redo of the original toy, and I gotta say, like other toys in this line, they've done a great job of making him look like he used to but improving on him. The toy is more durable, has a better robot form (though the shade of green is wrong for the vehicle form), and is just generally nifty.
On the other hand the transformation isn't the easiest. You gotta remember to fold down the (strangely white) seats before you transform him or it won't go all that easy. Stil pretty nifty.
Bizarrely Hound, who is, you know, an Autobot, comes packaged with Ravage, who is, you know, a Decepitcon. Further Ravage still transforms into what appears to be a cassette (though if you extend his tail, he can be a wireless router). I'm not sure why they packed him with Hound and I'm really not sure why they designed Hound to carry Ravage in vehicle form. So, yeah, a little weird.
Still and all, it's a neat toy and worth buying!

Transformers Beast Wars Dinobot Review

Transformers Beast Wars Dinobot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Dinobot is a decent, though unspectacular, beast-era Transformer. As he was featured on the cartoon, he tends to be one of the more popular figures.
This toy, however, is the FIFTH release of the same toy mold in the US, not to mention the couple of slight remolds also released, and was released in no small quantities. I can think of NO reason for the price to be so high, particularly as a cursory search on a popular auction site turned one up on the first page for one seventh of this price.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Transformers Beast Wars Dinobot

A warrior to his core, Dinobot lived only for honor won in combat. Disgusted by the greed and dishonesty of Megatron, and with a life-debt owed to the Maximal leader, he joined Optimus Primal. Though Dinobot was never fully trusted by some Maximals, his strong honor code and philosophical nature always led him on the path to victory. He was one of many to fall in the Beast Wars, sacrificing his life in a heroic battle against an overwhelming Predacon attack.
This detailed robot figure changes to an impressive Dinobot beast and back again. Figure comes with bonus Beast Wars DVD. Measures 6" tall.

Transformers Alternators - Mazda RX-8 (Shock Blast) Review

Transformers Alternators - Mazda RX-8 (Shock Blast)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I can't help but notice the "Ages 5 and Up" recommendation for this toy. I guarantee if you give this thing to a five-year-old, it will be broken before you get it out of the box.
I'm a long way from five years old, and I've collected scores of Transformers since I was a kid in 1984. Still, transforming Shockblast is a nerve-wracking chore. When the hood pops off (and it will, repeatedly), it can be difficult to reattach. It seems impossible to reattach in robot mode, but slips right on if it's closer to car mode. In robot mode, it never seems to fit right, like it's not fully attached. The antennae on his head exacerbate this problem, but without them he just wouldn't look right. Perhaps the engineers at Hasbro should have mounted them on pins so they could rotate down and out of the way.
Another gripe is that the various plastic pins don't stick too well in their holes to hold the thing firmly together. The hip pins won't stay snug in the torso holes, and the pin on the gun handle won't push into the hole in his hand.
This all points to the purpose of the Alternators toys...they aren't meant to be played with, only examined and displayed. The Alternators line is definitely intended for older kids and adults. The plastic is just begging to be broken, and they take patience and a little ingenuity to transform. Compared with other Alternators, Shockblast is one of the more difficult to transform. I'm still surprised I didn't break it.
Sure, the durability of the plastic itself seems weak. The benefit of this construction, however, has merit over the old die-cast designs in that parts tend to pop off rather than break. It's generally easy to snap plastic parts back together, not so easy to solder metal (unless the plastic itself breaks, which has not happened yet despite the feeling that it will). Also, I have to give credit to the engineers for making this thing mostly work. I imagine it takes a lot of skill to get all of these parts to fit and move properly.
Despite the design flaws and poor materials, this thing looks super. The color scheme is a dead-on representation of the original Shockwave. The head mold and arm cannon are also perfect homages to the original. Articulation in robot mode is excellent, as is the level of detail. While annoying to handle, it looks great on a shelf.
Bottom line, this thing (along with all Alternators) should carry an "Ages 12 and up" recommendation. If you want a Transformer to handle, one that will stand up to the rigors of manual manipulation, get one of the kid-friendly "Energon" or "Cybertron" figures. If you want something more mature that looks better than it works, Shockblast is the way to go.
Final Note: Apparently Hasbro lost the legal rights to the name "Shockwave" (something that has happened a lot in the last ten years) but that didn't stop them from putting "SHKWAV" on the license plate. This little touch made me giddy like a schoolgirl.

Jazz Transformers Commemorative Series III Generation One Reissue Action Figure Review

Jazz Transformers Commemorative Series III Generation One Reissue Action Figure
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When Transformers Generation 1 're-issue' die-cast toys were introduced, I was excited then I went to check them out at Toys R Us. I was very disappointed.
The USA toys are different from Japanese ones. THE USA version WEAPONS are all wrong! The missles are not silver and they look really long! Optimus Prime's SMOCKSTACKS are chopped off! Starscream's missles are really long and they hang out in hideous fashion! After seeing these defects I called Takara and they told me the USA versions have longer missles so its harder for kids to eat, the smokestack chopped off so its harder for kids to chew on, the non use of silver weapons so kids wont eat or chip the metallic paint! I now realized that the USA versions are wacked! They are made for 2 year olds. NOT to mention it comes with NOTHING extra, The Japanese version have profile sheet, character card, comics, brochures, better box etc...
Then I went online and found some shops that sell the Japanese version, after studying the pictures carefully I was convinced. I paid a little more but its totally worth it. Did you know you can get Megatron in Japanese version? Hound the green Jeep too! There is NO Megatron and Hound for USA reissues. So far I have Optimus Prime(with tall smockstack like the Original version), Smokescreen, Sidewipe(A Lambo like Sunstreaker but their tranformations are different), Starscream(with accurate sized missles), SoundWave, Ravage & Lazerbeak.
However the quality of both Japanese and USA reissues are definately WORSE than the 20+years ago original version. The OG version were made in Japan with high quality material and craftmanship. These reissues are all made in China, they have cheaper material quality and coarser workmanship overall.
The Japanese version comes with SILVER missles, all weapons are accurate, A thick high-quality color brochure with tons of bonus!
The Box can be converted into a showstand. I recommend G1 Tranformer fans to check out the Japanese version. A cool place is ImageAnine, check out the Japanese versions.
I hope Takara/Hasbro will continue to make Japanese reissues! How about some Dinobots, Constructions, Jetfire, more microcassettes like Rumble & Frenzy, make them all!

Rotorwash Rumble - Arcee Vs. Tailwhip Review

Rotorwash Rumble - Arcee Vs. Tailwhip
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Oh, Arcee! You confusing, confusing femme. The femmes in Bayverse really get the proverbial shaft--it took until a few weeks ago for the third of the cyclebots (originally called Flareup, now, apparently, Elita-One, despite the fact that Elita got killed in canon in Reign of Starscream hahahaah Bayverse canon, you giant migraine in the making!!)and Arcee's back, repackaged with a new Con: Tailwhip.
Arcee's Arcee--a solid figure and if you like the cyclebots, you'll like her (it's a love/hate thing with the aesthetics) so I'm going to talk about Tailwhip.
He is a pain in the butt to transform. Almost as bad as Deluxe Ironhide (gaaaaaah!) and his rotor thing which you see in the packaging...just doesn't work. You see in his bot mode the rotorblades split in half, and mounted pointing up on each shoulder. Yyyyyyyeah. Good luck with that. The connection to the arm is loose and sloppy. You'll be lucky if the rotor doesn't just plop right on the floor. As for getting it to stick up like that? Ain't gonna happen.
He's one of the Shanghai decos--the big new thing--but is a new mold (he's not a repaint of Grindor, etc). His copter mode is sleek and nice (once you get it!--there's a bit of trouble with the torso/cockpit that all the instruction sheet in the world will not help you with!) and has a cute little push gimmick to spin his rotor.
For a two-pack, it's a reasonably good value and two good figures, as opposed to Hasbro's continual attempt to stick us with Mudflap or Yet Another Bumblebee.
I don't know how well he'd stand up to tough play--I'm a collector and gentle with my toys and I had a few joint pop-outs with him. But for collectors, he's a nice one.

Transformers Universe: Dinobot Striker Review

Transformers Universe: Dinobot Striker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Warning! This Transformer is extremely difficult to transform.
Out of the box, this Transformer comes in the dinosaur form. The instructions included with the toy my son got were only for changing it into the robot form. There were no instructions for changing back to the dinosaur. The instructions said to just reverse the procedure for transforming the dinosaur into the robot. It was difficult enough to change it into the robot; my 7 year old was unable to do it and he is usually quite good with these types of toys. The instructions included have very small pictures making it difficult to see exactly how to make the manipulations to transform this toy. Trying to use these instructions to go in reverse order back to the dinosaur is nearly impossible. I am a highly educated person with a doctorate degree and it took me well over half an hour to figure out how to change this thing back into the dinosaur. Once it was back into the dinosaur form, it didn't stay together very well.
Even with proper instructions I believe this toy would be difficult to transform as the parts are extremely difficult to move properly. I had to force some of the parts to make them move where they were supposed to go. Pieces kept popping off as I tried to manipulate this thing. In fact the instructions state that pieces may come off, but that you can simply snap them back on (which you can). This statement in the instructions suggests to me that the manufacturer knows this thing is difficult.
Unless you want to see your young child in tears because he/she can't work this "stupid toy" (to quote my son), I recommend you stay away from this one.
